Eyre Bird Observatory is nestled within the Nuytsland Nature Reserve, home to over 240 species of birds.
It is possible to see and study some of the pelagic sub-Antarctic birds as well as those of the mallee.
The observatory is in the winter range of honeyeaters which move into the deep southwest.
In winter, the Great Australian Bight is a wintering area for sea birds coming up from the Antarctic. Large numbers of petrels, gannets and albatross are visible off the coast.
In summer a colony of penguins is present at twilight Cove.
